| DERA offers a close relationship to organisations who wish to benefit from a better understanding of the way in which Earth Observation technologies can be exploited to meet customers’ needs. This may involve developing concepts for new instruments, techniques to generate more effective information products, improving EO data integration with information systems, or enhancing data delivery. |
DERA addresses all these issues through an integrated EO programme. Areas of particular expertise include developing techniques to extract information from Synthetic Aperture Radars (SAR) where all-weather capabilities bring advantages to a wide range of applications. Recent dramatic improvements in optical satellite resolution also presents exciting opportunities, and DERA work on the optimisation of GIS environments for EO data will provide fundamental support to this new area. Speed is becoming essential for many applications, and DERA is continuing its mission to improve data delivery times through faster data handling and electronic dissemination. The DERA-owned ground stations already disseminate a wide range of optical and SAR data to customers in near-real time. |

Application Research Many organisations are experiencing the benefits of strategic partnership with DERA, ensuring that commercial applications evolve from remote sensing research. Close relationships with organisations in disciplines ranging from oceanographic survey to land use mapping, civil engineering, and military planning are already leading to a better understanding of the many ways in which EO technologies can provide real commercial benefits.
