| WHAT
IS GEOGRAPHIC IMAGING? |
Geographic
Imaging bridges the gap between conventional Image Processing and mainstream
GIS. ERDAS IMAGINE does not treat Image Processing in isolation, but recognises that
imagery is used primarily to collect information, such as DEMs, land cover, roads and
railways and other man made features. Once information is extracted from imagery,
its primary use is to allow scientists, engineers, environmentalists and planners to make
informed and, hopefully, correct decisions about where to place a new cellular phone
antenna or a new dam, where to replant new tress, route a new railway, fields to add more
fertiliser to or how to control river pollution. All these applications need an
ANALYSIS tool, such as the ERDAS IMAGINE Spatial Modeler. Geographic Imaging makes
imagery intelligent enough to enable people to manage the environment--not just picture
it.

| ArcView Image Analysis Extension by ERDAS |
| For the
first time, image processing tools have been brought into a popular desk-top GIS
environment. Designed for people not conversant with imagery or image processing, but
wanting to use imagery as a source of geographic data for GIS analysis, Image Analysis is
a core extension for ESRI's ArcView GIS. It has been developed by ERDAS in partnership
with ESRI to open up geographic image processing to a world of new users. |
