Remote Sensing Applications Consultants Limited (RSAC)
RSAC has been involved in practical applications of Earth observation data since 1986. This experience has resulted in an overall capability which goes beyond remote sensing to include GIS, GPS, database management, project management and scientific support.
Consultancy and Image Processing Services
The key feature of RSAC is the team of nine consultants with over 100 years of remote sensing experience. This is backed up by sophisticated image processing and GIS equipment which supports applications development and the routine production of remote sensing goods and services:
- Image selection
- Ortho-correction
- Perspective views
- Mosaicing
- DEM production
- Image classification
- Photographic output

Agriculture and Land Cover Mapping
Land applications and especially agriculture, have been a major focus for RSAC. Customised systems have been developed and used for monitoring subsidy claims under the European Union Common Agricultural Policy, for crop inventory in developing countries and for monitoring the success of policies which encourage environmentally-friendly farming. These projects have been conducted in association with the European Commission (EC), the UK Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, ADAS and the Ministry of Agriculture in Paraguay.

RSAC, at the head of a European consortium, has received funding under the EC Fourth Framework Programme to develop a project called SABRES (Services to Agri-Business by REmote Sensing). SABRES will, amongst other objectives, demonstrate the routine delivery of processed images to farmers via the Internet, in support of precision agriculture.

In addition, and with the same practical philosophy, RSAC has developed applications for hydrology, land cover mapping and soil erosion.

Within many of its activities, and in addition to a wide experience of optical data, RSAC has been closely involved in the development of applications of radar data. Specific techniques have been devised to maximise the information content of radar images and in addition, the company has a skills base in the interferometric processing of radar data for DEM production and land cover analysis.
Information Technology
In 1996, RSAC added a new capability to its business portfolio: technical support for the dissemination of information via the Internet, including WWW site and CD-ROM production. Whilst initially operating in the Earth observation sector, this capability is available to the wider geographical information market, as are all the company's skills.

Project Management
Practical knowledge of Earth observation applications has enabled RSAC to offer Project Management skills as one of its capabilities. Between 1993 and 1996, RSAC played an important part in an EC-ASEAN remote sensing project, providing management and administration support. RSAC made a significant contribution towards the successful collaboration between Europeans and Asians for eight remote sensing projects in South East Asia.
RSAC has provided scientific and management support to the European Space Agency involving preparatory campaigns for new sensors, post-launch validation activities and documentation.
World-wide Experience
Apart from the UK and Europe, RSAC has its main areas of business located in South America, South East Asia and China, but work has also been conducted in Africa and the Indian sub-continent.
