Ten things to do with your WOUK2000 CDROM:

6: Extract images for a report
Explanation
You can extract images from the CDROM for use in educational reports - such as teachers' lesson plans or students' essay answers - (commercial reports may only be compiled with prior written permission from the image supplier) using the MrSID™ viewer.

Teaching resources based on WOUK2000 will be placed on the WOUK2000 web site for download. Please send your documents to Alison Caldwell for uploading. Teaching resources for the 'Window on the World' CDROM can also be downloaded from the WOW web site.

Images (though not the maps) could also be used on personal web sites - business users will need prior written permission from the image supplier. If you are not sure whether you should get written permission, then you should ask the image supplier for guidance. All images must have hyperlinked Supplier / Copyright information as used on this CDROM, but linking to the appropriate 'absolute' web address - see their page in the contacts section for the address.

Requirements

  • MrSID™ (compatible with Windows95/98/00/NT and Power PC Macs)
  • Word processor
  • Image Viewer/HTML Editor

Steps

  1. Open the required image in the MrSID™ viewer
  2. Zoom to the appropriate level
  3. Wait until the image has loaded fully, then click on 'Options' and 'Copy to clipboard'
  4. Go to your word processor and select 'Paste' (from clipboard)
  5. Alternatively, when the image is open, select 'File' and 'Export' to save it to your hard disk, then 'Insert' it to your word processor document

If you are going to put an image on your personal web site, you will need to convert it to a JPG file using an image viewer and then incorporate it within your web page using a HTML editor in the normal way.
