About the British Association of Remote Sensing Companies (BARSC)
Introduction
A trade association established in 1985. Aims are to ensure that the interests of its members are represented on national, international and government committees. It provides a forum for discussions with UK government departments. Its members offer and undertake consulting and contracting services.
Industrial Space Activities
Activities of members currently include satellite payload design and development; sensor technology; data acquisition and handling; ground station developments; EO data networks; image processing and interpretation; UK/European application programmes support; digital map production; development of GIS.
BARSC holds open meetings five or six times a year, mainly in London. Regular events are an Annual General Meeting in March; a Luncheon with a prominent speaker in July; and an autumn event such as a one-day conference on a topical theme. Speakers have included the DG of the European Commission Joint Research Centre; the DG of the BNSC; representatives from space agencies and other senior government representatives.
