About the United Kingdom Industrial Space Committee (UKISC)
Introduction
The United Kingdom Industrial Space Commitee (UKISC) is the principal trade association of the British space industry, and is sponsored jointly by the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) (see separate entry) and the Federation of the Electronics Industry (FEI). The Chairman is Dr John Haynes; Vice Chairman - Mr Andrew Roberts; Secretary General - Mr Alan Hicks. The Committee meets regularly in London, and meetings are addressed by senior personalities from the national and international space community.
Industrial Space Activities
The objective of the UKISC is to represent the collective interests of member companies in increasing space- and space-related business and their share of the market. As such it acts as the trade association of the UK space industry; provides a forum for formulating and discussing industrial policy; and is a clearing house for relevant information. Provision of support to the British Government, on space issues, is an important UKISC function.
This support takes a variety of forms including:
- Providing industry's view of official regulatory legal standards and policy issues.
- Providing support to the Parliamentary Space Committee.
- Contributing to the general cause on behalf of the space industry through membership of official committees and working parties.
- Briefing National and EU Government officials and representatives on space matters.
- Liaison with the British National Space Centre.
The Committee interacts with overseas space organizations, lobbying on behalf of, and providing a convenient interface into the UK industry. It also works with BNSC on export promotion and support activities. UKISC circulates, on wide distribution, brochures and briefing papers that collectively reflect UK industry's interests and aspirations in space.
