What is the Remote Sensing Society?
Remote sensing is the key technology for monitoring the Earth's changing environment. The Remote Sensing Society (RSS) promotes the interests of the remote sensing community in Europe and around the World and provides a focus for the exchange of knowledge and expertise. The Society supports remote sensing in research, education and industry and has members with interests in:

  • The application of remotely sensed data to real World problems
  • Design and development of new sensors and platforms for Earth observation
  • Development of novel techniques and methods for analysing remotely sensed data
  • Integration of remotely sensed data with data from other sources
  • Development of the commercial market for remote sensing products and services
A key feature of the Society is the close ties that exist between academic, commercial, industrial, governmental and international organisations.

What are the benefits?
Joining the RSS gives you access to the World of remote sensing, a unique network of research, educational and commercial contacts and a range of other benefits:

  • Full programme of meetings and workshops including the annual conference and commercial exhibition and a student conference
  • Large discount on the subscription to the Society's own International Journal of Remote Sensing
  • Quarterly Newsletter with up-to-date news on remote sensing missions, products and services provided by RSS corporate members and special feature articles
  • Membership of Special Interest Groups which act as a foci for members with interests in specific aspects of remote sensing
  • Email list-server for global communications with RSS members
  • RSS Web Site
  • Travel bursaries and awards
  • Network of commercial members around the World
International Journal of Remote Sensing
The International Journal of Remote Sensing is the official journal of the Remote Sensing Society. It is published by Taylor and Francis and includes primary papers on basic science, techniques and applications. The journal also has a Letters section for material that merits fast publication. Principal topics include:
  • Data collection, analysis and interpretation
  • Surveying form space, air and water platforms
  • Sensor design and development
  • Image processing
  • Applications of remotely sensed data
