About the RSS Enterprises Ltd
RSS Enterprises Ltd (RSSE) is the trading arm of the Remote Sensing Society. The Society has charitable status in the United Kingdom and is thereby debarred from trading activities. RSSE was therefore formed to further the Society’s educational and promotional aims; the shareholders being members of the Council of the Society. It is non-profit making, any surplus revenues being covenanted to the RSS. It does not compete with industry, although it will collaborate with RSS corporate members in joint projects. The Company is able to offer a broad base of expertise through its symbiotic links with the Remote Sensing Society and its members. The Company is able to draw on the expertise of members who have indicated their interest in project work and who come from a wide range of industry, education and interest groups, whilst still offering and maintaining independence from any commercial or sectional interests.
Recent successful ventures include editing and publishing an educational pack for schools called ‘Spaceview’, organising the international scientific conferences; Terra 1 and Terra 2, and carrying out a study for the Joint Research Centre (CEC) into the feasibility of a brokerage service for the Centre for Earth Observation. For this particular project RSSE has built on the success of the 'Window on the World' CDROM and again drawn upon its unique skill base (members of the society) to form a consortium offering BNSC a complete solution for this 'Window on the UK' CDROM.
